Le Probleme Du Controle Des Antibiotiques En Belgique^*

Summary

The authors review the measures taken by the Ministry of Health, since antibiotics were brought on the market, in order to guarantee their quality. These concern not only their use in human and veterinary medicine but also as feed supplements.

The physico-chemical, biological and microbiological tests and assays of the Pharmacopoeia are commented. The need of referring to standard preparations is illustrated with respect to the microbiological assays. Reasons are explained why to prefer the biological unit in mentioning the activity. Attention is drawn on the actual danger which justifies the formal prohibition of antibiotics as additives in food.

Les auteurs donnent un aperçu des mesures prises par le Département de la Santé Publique en vue d’assurer la qualité des antibiotiques depuis leur apparition sur le marché : ces mesures visent leur usage en médecine humaine et vétérinaire ainsi que leur emploi comme additifs dans l’alimentation des animaux.

Les essais visant le controle physico-chimique, biologique et microbiologique sont passes en revue. L’accent est mis sur la nécessité de disposer des standards de reference en fonction des dosages microbiologiques et sur la preference à donner aux unites biologiques comme mode d’expression.

Les inconvénients justifiant l’interdiction des antibiotiqües comme additifs dans les denrées alimentaires sont soulignés.

Stellers geven een overzicht van de maatregelen, welke het Departement van Volksgezondheid heeft genomen, sinds het op de markt verschijnen van de anti- biotica, teneinde de kwaliteit ervan te waarborgen. Dit betreft zowcl het geneeskundig als diergeneeskundig gebruik evenals de aanwenđing in voedsel voor dieren.

Een overzicht van de fisico-chemische, biologische en microbiologische proeven van de Farmacopee wordt gegeven. De onmisbaarheid van standaard-preparaten wordt in het licht gesteld bij de bespreking der microbiologische waardebepalingen. De redenen om de activiteit bij voorkeur in biologische eenheden uit te drukken worden uitecngezet. Het gevaar dat het verbod wettigt antibiotica aan eetwaren toe te voegen wordt onderstrccpt.
