A Propos D’un Cas De Syndrome De Pickwick

Summary

A case of Pickwickian syndrome is reported. A benign evolution is noted when the patient returned to a normal weight.

The results of the technical investigations, including the analysis of the respiratory response to carbon dioxide inhalation, are discussed.

Recent concepts of the physiopathology of the “Pickwickian syndrome” are reviewed and applied to the interpretation of this case.

Les auteurs rapportent un cas de syndrome de Pickwick ayant évolué favorablement suite à l’amaigrissement du malade. Ils discutent, à la lumière de la littérature, les résultats des explorations et en particulier les tests de sensibilité au CO2 réalisés avant et après traitement, ainsi que les conceptions actuelles concernant la physiopathologie du syndrome.

Samenvatting

Een geval van Pickwick syndroom wordt beschreven. De evolutie was gunstig nadat het gewicht van de patiënt opnieuw genormaliseerd was. De resultaten van technische onderzoeken, – waaronder de analyse van de respiratoire gevolgen van koolstofdioxide inhalatie – worden besproken. Recente opvattingen betreffende de physiopathologie van het “Pickwick syndroom” worden uiteengezet en toegepast op de interpretatie van dit geval.
