Abstract

The degree of dissociation of hydrated polystyrene divinylbenzene sulfonic acid ion exchange resin was measured by nuclear magnetic resonance technique. The acid dissociation constant of ion exchange resin calculated from the chemical shifts was 0.7. The degree of dissociation of the hydrogen ions was found to be affected by the coexisting metal ions.
