Abstract

Health education professionals must continuously address health promotion issues using the latest strategies and research. Agenda setting uses interrelationships of the media, public, and policy agendas to explore how issues move to the forefront of policymakers' actions. The relative importance of an issue influences the policy agenda and is determined by how often an issue appears in the media. The Albuquerque Clean Indoor Air Ordinance is an example of agenda setting applied to a health promotion issue.
