Soul Speaks to Soul

Pages 85-86 | Published online: 10 May 2013

Abstract

This review recommends a slow, contemplative reading of the thirteen stories in Marked by Fire: Stories of the Jungian Way, in order to capture the rich emotional impact playing out in the reader. Anxiety, joy, and kinship feelings are evoked as well as appreciation of the rewards of healing and positive resolution of problems on the personal, collective, and planetary level. The stories of soul suffering and healing have a potent, stimulating impact and arouse the reader's own soul experiences. Confirmation of Jung's discoveries and his emphasis on the need to find one's own unique path in life is clearly given in these stories. The range of insight and emotional nuance displayed removes any tendency toward dogmatic thinking. Material of this kind moves beyond the personal, illustrating the importance of connection to generations past. Synchronistic experiences and humorous dilemmas add intrigue to the stories. The work spelled out by each author is daunting and sometimes evokes a resistance in the reader, yet the universality of suffering and healing commands the reader's attention and inspires. The palpable rewards of finding a new sense of vitality come through and invite others onto this path of soul exploration.
