Abstract
This paper describes the underlying technology of the GoingStick, a ground assessment device developed by Cranfield University, UK, in collaboration with the TurfTrax Group. An analysis of the data produced from environmental characterization trials show that the GoingStick offers potential as a tool to assist in irrigation scheduling for the horseracing industry. The wider applications of the GoingStick in conjunction with electromagnetic scanning are discussed.
