Ghosts in the Dressing Room

Pages 103-111 | Published online: 11 Jan 2013

Abstract

The author discusses a patient he treated in psychotherapy when he was a psychiatry resident. Both patient and therapist are openly gay and had a chance meeting in their New York neighborhood. Issues of intimacy, fear of intimacy, and boundary crossings in psychotherapy are discussed. The closet and the stage are used as metaphors for psychotherapy and life.
