Turning the Twentieth Century on its Side: A Review of The Queer Child

Pages 101-105 | Received 14 Jan 2013, Accepted 01 May 2013, Published online: 14 Jan 2014

Abstract

The Queer Child examines childhood sexuality from the intersection of childhood studies, queer theory, film theory, and literary studies. This highly theoretical text not only demonstrates how the “ghostly gay child” lurks alongside the twentieth century in literature and film but also provides reading practices for discerning these queer children.

Peter Murray

Peter Murray, MPhil, is a doctoral candidate at Fordham University questioning how failures to educate the queer child in colonial and postcolonial literature can be read as successful critiques of both British imperialism and its reiteration in neoliberal capitalism.
