Abstract

Samples of a thermal coal were analyzed by the conventional methods and the online analyzer. The results obtained in static calibration tests and the online analysis showed high correlations of 89.9%, 98.6%, and 98.2%, respectively for volatile matter, ash, and calorific value. However, the results obtained for the dynamic tests correlate poorly with reproducible conventional tests, particularly at the initial stages of the calibration study. It was observed that the results of the real-time analyses gradually get closer to the conventional static results as the online analyzer accumulated more data on the varying nature of the coal deposit.
