Welcome to the fourth of six issues in 2016. This issue consists of six papers.

The first paper by Dadjé et al. is a review which presents various methods and approaches for tracking the maximum power points from a PV generator operating under ‘Partially Shaded Conditions’. The second paper by Chandia et al. explores the use of solar energy to satisfy the Chilean mining industry’s energy demand. This is followed by a paper by Toledo et al. which also examines the use of solar power in the context of Brazilian social housing, and provides a set of parameters for the design of solar light pipes.

The fourth paper by Swarnalatha and Ayoob explores the effectiveness of utilisation of coir pith, an accumulating waste, as a biosorbent for heavy metal. The next paper by Jena and Sarmah is a comprehensive review of current developments and practices in closed-loop supply chains with the aim of shedding light on future directions in this area.

This issue concludes with a paper by Tchertchian et al. which presents an approach to product design that combines life cycle analysis (LCA) methods and problem solving through constraint satisfaction (CSP) to achieve the best architecture along with the best functional definition for the product.
