Abstract

Hydroxyapatite modified Pt–ZnO nanoparticles (Pt–ZnO –HAP) were synthesized by a template-ultrasonic assisted method. The nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction, UV–Vis absorption spectroscopy, N2 adsorption–desorption measurement (Brunauer, Emmett and Teller [BET]), photoluminescence spectroscopy, etc. The photocatalytic activities were evaluated by a photocatalytic oxidation decomposition of benzene under a visible-light irradiation. The results showed that the coupled system (Pt–ZnO –HAP) indicated a maximum photocatalytic activity and photochemical stability under a visible-light irradiation than all the other catalysts. The intensively improved visible-light-induced photocatalytic activity of the Pt–ZnO –HAP hybrids could be attributed to its strong absorption in the visible-light region, low recombination rate of the electron–hole pair, and large BET specific surface area.
