THE ATTAINMENT OF MINIMUM-IRON PROPERTIES IN CELLULOSIC MATERIALS

&
Pages P143-P160 | Published online: 05 Jan 2009

Abstract

An instrument is described which enables an assessment to be made of the smooth-drying properties of textile materials. By its use, a comparison is presented of the effects of different resin-forming and reactant systems applied to cotton, viscose rayon, and linen. The results confirm that each fibre, and indeed each fabric, requires its own individual approach to the problem of imparting minimum-iron characteristics. The particular case of linen is dealt with in detail and the different reaction of this fibre regarding resistance to abrasion is compared with that obtained on cotton.
