12—THE FELTABILITY OF WOOL-MAN-MADE-FIBRE BLENDS AND THE INTERPRETATION OF THE FELTING MECHANISM

Pages T145-T155 | Received 30 Sep 1964, Accepted 01 Dec 1964, Published online: 05 Dec 2008

Abstract

The rate of felting of blends containing wool and various man-made fibres was determined with the Aachener Filztest. A strong correlation was found to exist between the rate of felting of these blends and their compressional properties on the one hand and the wet Young's modulus of the man-made fibres on the other. Man-made fibres with a low wet Young's modulus enchance the rate of felting in blends with wool and vice versa.
