The author would like to amend the wording of the Acknowledgements section of the above article, to acknowledge the work of two colleagues who contributed greatly to the writing of the article but were erroneously not fully credited with their work, as follows:

Acknowledgements

The author would like to wilfully acknowledge the inclusion of text in this article written by Professor Lynn M. Hempel (currently of Colorado State University) and Professor Frank M. Howell (Professor Emeritus at Mississippi State University).

Along with the author, Professors Hempel and Howell are jointly responsible for the previously unpublished section of text entitled Legacy of lynching on page 344 of the article. This text refers to the cultural orientations which have allowed for the development and maintenance of mechanisms associated with the continued levels of inequality which continue to exist in the American South today.

Any citation of this material should be done so with the understanding that Professors Hempel and Howell are to be credited for their intellectual contribution to the work.
