Abstract

History of the development of the polarographic method from the birth of Professor Jaroslav Heyrovsky in 1890 until the Nobel Prize award in 1959 is described. Background of the Nobel Laureate's family and education is given. Factors contributing to the discovery and development of the method are discussed.
