Pages 229-235 | Received 12 Jul 2017, Accepted 31 Oct 2017, Published online: 10 Nov 2017

ABSTRACT

The study aimed at determining the influence of collaborative leadership skills on patients’ access to quality healthcare services. The research questions that guided the study included an assessment of the factors that affect access to quality healthcare services and the determination of how different collaborative leadership initiatives influence the factors affecting individuals’ access to quality healthcare services. The study was based on quantitative analysis of a total of 45 studies. The outcome of the study indicated that the adoption of collaborative patient care enhances physical access to healthcare services (67% ± 5.099, P = 0.033). The adoption of inter- and intrahospital collaboration enhances the availability of healthcare services (59% ± 9.100, P = 0.029). Patient and healthcare provider collaboration on preventive care significantly enhances the availability of healthcare services (31% ± 3.994, P = 0.05). However, a significant difference between the influence of collaborative leadership initiatives on access to healthcare services (χ2(2) = 8.632, P = 0.009) was observed. Based on the study outcome, the studied collaborative leadership strategies should be adopted by healthcare leaders to ensure that patients receive enhanced access to healthcare services.
