Atau Tanaka
Atau Tanaka works at the intersection of HCI and Computer Music, helping to establish the field of New Interfaces for Musical Expression (NIME). He performs with systems of embodied interaction, capturing body movement and physiological states to create digital musical instrument systems for concert performance. This work was carried out in the European Research Council (ERC) project, Meta Gesture Music. He received a Best Paper award at CHI for his Haptic Wave audio interface for partially sighted users. He has been researcher at Sony CSL Paris, artistic co-director of STEIM Amsterdam, director of Culture Lab Newcastle, Edgard-Varèse Guest Professor at TU Berlin, and is Professor of Media Computing at Goldsmiths University of London.
