1. In addition to Jarnicka’s sound installation, the Ham House project includes some examples of reconstructed servant voices with contextual historical framing, accessed by scanning separate QR codes located next to the wall portraits of the servants chosen. These audio “portraits” are also available online through SoundCloud. They do not attempt to use seventeenth-century language or pronunciation beyond what is conventional in period drama, for example.

Jeanice Brooks

Jeanice Brooks is Professor of Music at the University of Southampton, UK. Her research focusses on domestic music in Georgian Britain, and she regularly works with historic houses to incorporate sound into visitor experience. She is the leader of the international Sound Heritage network devoted to research and interpretation of music in historic houses, and co-author of the Sounding Erddig online library of sounds and music from a National Trust property in North Wales.
