¿Es la socialización un instrumento de intervención en pacientes con demencia?

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to gain understanding of the use of socialization as a therapeutic tool for persons who suffer dementia. Occupational therapists working at adult care centers or long term institutions are using activity groups for the management of behavioral, mental and sleeping disorders, symptoms often associated in dementia. The purpose of this investigation, is to demostrate that socialization improves the sense of well-being and quality-of-life. In this study 86 patients were screened. They had stable general health condition and were in an appropiate medication therapy, allowing them to participate in group activities.

Resumen

El propósito de este estudio es conocer en su plenitud el uso de la socialización como un instrumento terapéutico en las personas que padecen demencia.

Los terapeutas ocupacionales, que trabajan en los centros de atención diurna o centros de larga estadía con pacientes institucionalizados, han usado actividades de grupo para el manejo de los desórdenes del comportamiento, mentales y del sueño, características frecuentes en los pacientes con demencia.

El propósito de este trabajo es poder demostrar que la socialización mejora el bienestar y calidad de vida.

Para esta investigación se eligieron 86 pacientes con demencia, los cuales mantienen un buen estado de salud y un tratamiento farmacológico adecuado, lo cual permitirá participar en las actividades grupales.
