Pages 9-12 | Published online: 12 Apr 2016

Abstract

Founded in 1952, the occupational therapy (O.T.) training school at Seth G.S. Medical College and K.E.M Hospital, Mumbai was the first of its kind in Asian subcontinent. All India Occupational Therapists' Association (AIOTA) was formed in 1952 and became founder council member of WFOT in the same year. The educational programme over a period of years was enhanced from one 2-year diploma course to 4.5-year Degree courses. Today there are 15 O.T. education centers in India, recognized by AIOTA and WFOT. Post-graduate programmes have enriched culture-oriented research. The educational process is community oriented and based on medical model.
