Chester Brown´s Bible in Mary Wept Over the Feet of Jesus

Pages 557-573 | Received 19 Dec 2018, Accepted 06 Dec 2019, Published online: 30 Dec 2019

ABSTRACT

One of the latest authors to retell biblical stories in graphic novel form has been Chester Brown, a well-known Canadian underground illustrator who in 2016 released Mary Wept Over the Feet of Jesus, a novel containing adaptations of biblical stories in which the protagonists are fundamentally women. The aim of our work has been to study the interpretative viewpoint of the female-centric stories told by Brown, investigating additions, omissions, and changes to the biblical source text.
