On the possibility of total ozone variability as a precursor for major earthquakes in Greece

Pages 237-242 | Received 24 Jun 2012, Accepted 09 Aug 2012, Published online: 05 Sep 2012

Abstract

Recent analysis of satellite data revealed that earlier claims that the variations of total ozone content could be considered as a promising precursor for earthquake prediction are questionable. Here, we show that in order to identify the parameters (time, epicentre and magnitude) of an impending earthquake, satellite data should be combined with ground-based measurements of other physical properties like the Earth's electric field variations.
