Mandatory Neurointerventions Could Enhance the Mental Integrity of Certain Criminal Offenders

Notes

1 Here, correct origins would refer to desires that have been formed without undue external interference, manipulation or coercion.

2 See Manchia et al. (Citation2017) for a discussion of the relationship between serotonin and aggression levels and mental illness and Narvaes and de Almeida (Citation2014) for a review of research that has investigated how neurotransmitters affect levels of aggression.

3 While I have focused exclusively on aggression, a similar argument could be made for empathy levels that deviate sufficiently from the norm.

4 For data on the side effects of SSRIs see Cascade et al. (Citation2009). In this study 38% of patients reported experiencing one or more of the nine side effects. This may be taken as an indication of the variability of side effects: Different patients experience different side effects, with some not experiencing any at all.
