Brain Stimulation and National Security: Considering the Narratives of Neuromodulation

Pages 22-24 | Published online: 16 Apr 2010

Notes

1. TMS is a method of altering the activity of a small, precise region of the cortex through the use of targeted magnetic fields. Through the rest of this commentary I refer primarily to TMS, but in many cases there are useful parallels to be made between it and other brain stimulation methods. (For a more detailed review of the mechanisms and applications of TMS and related technologies, see CitationLuber et al. [2009].)
