ISTE Message

A Message from ISTE

JDLTE began nearly 40 years ago with the goal of delivering a research-based view on best practices in using technology in teacher education. With an unwavering focus on that goal, the journal has grown to reach approximately 2900 institutional subscribers and is now recognized as a second tier journal in the field. Submissions have increased a remarkable 90% over the past three years. Part of the success of JDTLE has been an ongoing partnership with the teacher education community.

We are particularly grateful to the members of ISTE’s Teacher Education Professional Learning Network (PLN) who have played an important role in supporting JDTLE over the years. In August 2021, ISTE launched a new PLN program, transitioning 22 separate PLNs (including the Teacher Education Network) into a single network serving the needs of all ISTE members. This new professional learning community is supported by ISTE Community Leaders, including many former members of ISTE’s Teacher Education Network as well as new participants from the higher education community. Insights from ISTE Community Leaders will continue to inform the work of JDLTE moving forward.

In addition to evolving our PLN program, ISTE is continuing to prioritize support for the teacher education community in other ways.

Among the tools and resources ISTE provides for teacher education are:

ISTE Recognition for Higher Education offers external validation for post-secondary programs that demonstrate a program-wide commitment to prepare future teachers for using technology to transform teaching and learning in the classroom. Rather than seeking compliance, ISTE acts as a collaborative partner with faculty curriculum teams that innovate to align their programs so candidates gain experience applying the ISTE Standards. Programs may also be eligible to become ISTE Higher Education Certification Providers, allowing students to earn the ISTE Certification for Educators as a fully integrated part of earning their degree. Resources to support teacher educators and preservice teachers, such as the recently published book Championing Technology Infusion in Teacher Preparation. Written by 20 teacher education experts, the book provides research- and practice-based direction for meaningful technology integration. ISTE members save 25% on the purchase of the book.

ISTE and EdSurge articles provide teacher educator perspectives and reporting on the future of teaching and learning in higher education. Access these resources and more at http://iste.org/teachereducation.

We look forward to the continued success of JDLTE and its important contributions to the field of teacher education. We are excited for the increased exposure and impact of the journal as its editors and contributors continue to chart the way forward for current and future generations of educators.

Sincerely,

Joseph South, ISTE Chief Learning Officer
