Neurogenic Factors in Hypertension

&
Pages 71-81 | Published online: 17 May 2016

Abstract

The neurogenic component appears to be an integral part of the “mosaic” of factors underlying chronic hypertension. Studies in many animal models have shown a critical interaction between the renin-angiotensin and the sympathetic nervous systems and have demonstrated the presence of an angiotensin-sensitive neural structure in the brain. The implications of these findings for human essential hypertension are discussed.
