Irritable Bowel Syndrome: A Multifactorial Disorder

Pages 119-133 | Published online: 17 May 2016

Abstract

IBS can be confidently diagnosed from the history, the physical examination, and a few simple diagnostic studies. Nevertheless, patients invariably have interrelated problems that are multifactorial and complex. Hence, the focus of treatment must be broadened to encompass the associated effects of stress, behavior, personality, and psychiatric disturbances.
