The Axiological Problem with Trump’s Wall and Endangered Species

Notes

1. Some philosophers view environmental aesthetic value as a type of intrinsic value rather than instrumental value. See the work of Robert Elliot for an example (Citation1997). Whether it is better understood as intrinsic value does not concern me here, as a loss of aesthetic value in however we characterize it is the issue.

2. One other prominent account of species’ intrinsic value was developed by Lawrence Johnson. Due to space constraints here, I’ll leave the reader to investigate Johnson’s well-argued and well-articulated account (Citation1991).
