1 Differences in average levels of minority linked fate among these four groups are statistically significant (F = 111.27, p < .001).
2 Given the racial, ethnic and partisan distribution of elected officials, particularly in national office, it is possible that respondents are more likely to assume the minority candidates are Democrats and this may in turn be related to their beliefs about how well the candidate will represent their interests. We have found in other research using this data [Bejarano et al., Citation2018] that this association between respondent identity and representational beliefs persists once partisanship is controlled for.
