A Groos case study: future educator?

Pages 108-110 | Received 16 Sep 2023, Accepted 16 Dec 2023, Published online: 25 Mar 2024

ABSTRACT

This narrative explores the idea that children play to practice skills they will need later in life, as theorized by Karl Groos. In this paper, I share a childhood memory of finding an easel and deciding to create and then teach a lesson to a group of students. Despite challenges throughout the lesson, including an unexpected picture day, the experience suggests that play-based learning can help students discover their passions and develop their resiliency.
