On the schools of contemporary Russian Marxism

Pages 412-416 | Published online: 17 Sep 2012

Abstract

Contemporary Marxism in Russia can be divided approximately into three schools: classical Marxism, introspective Marxism and innovative Marxism. Classical Marxism in most cases reproduces the key Marxist ideas expounded in the Soviet Union during the middle decades of the twentieth century, with a strong flavor of Stalinism. Introspective Marxism devotes itself to examining and re-evaluating Marxist theory and its history of development. Innovative Marxism analyzes the significant global changes in contemporary human life at a profound level, aiming to restore Marxism to relevance and to pursue innovation in Marxist ideas.
