Letter from the Editor

Dear reader,

In this issue of Human Vaccines & Immunotherapeutics, you will find seven Immunotherapy articles: a systematic literature review of approaches for treating pediatric neurodegenerative disorders (Vitaliti, p 2749), a longitudinal assessment of the safety of specific immunotherapy for allergic diseases (Bozek, p 2764), a comparison of projects for therapeutic MAb development (Geng, p 2769), a preclinical study of a novel therapeutic DNA vaccine against rheumatoid arthritis (Juan, p 2777), an evaluation of granulocyte-related factors as prognostic biomarkers in personalized peptide vaccination of cancer patients (Sakamoto, p 2784), and commentaries on personalized tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte therapy (Andersen, p 2790) and cancer stem cell vaccines (Zhou, p 2796).

In the Hepatitis B section, a systematic review looks at the immune response to vaccination in patients with celiac disease (Opri, p 2800), and three research papers report on vaccination in diabetics, among whom the disease burden is greater (Ozisik, p 2806), the development of an enteric nanoparticle vaccine carrying HBsAg for oral delivery (Farhadian, p 2811), and early clinical results of a novel recombinant vaccine (Yang, p 2819).

We are happy to present four articles on Influenza, including a short report on intradermal vaccine uptake among Canadian hospital personnel (Goodliffe, p 2827), a preclinical study of novel intranasal H5N1 vaccine carried by foldon peptide (Yu, p 2831), a study of the immunogenicity of inactivated H5N1 vaccine in subjects previously immunized with H5N2 live attenuated vaccine (Rudenko, p 2839), and a commentary on vaccine uptake among U.S. adults (Lu, p 2849).

The Licensed Vaccines section contains a review on immunization in solid organ and hematopoietic stem cell transplant patients (L'Huillier, p 2852), safety and immunogenicity of immediate vs. delayed BCG vaccination in preterm infants (Saroha, p 2864), and two commentaries on the U.S. CDCP's surveillance of Tdap vaccination in pregnancy (Moro, p 2872) and the struggle to increase vaccination coverage among adolescents in India (Verma, p 2880).

In addition, we introduce a study of media intervention to increase HPV vaccine uptake among African American adolescents (DiClemente, p 2883), an analysis of vaccine Acceptance among Australian children of vaccine-hesitant parents (Forbes, p 2895), and a preclinical study of a Novel intranasal nano-emulsion-based inactivated RSV vaccine (O'Konek, p 2904). We conclude this issue of HV&I with two Technology articles: an evaluation of mucosal adjuvants as inducers of humoral immune response in macaques (Veazey, p 2913), and a meeting report from the Next Generation Vaccine Biomarkers Workshop in Ottawa, Canada (Twine, p 2923).

Our monthly News, Policy and Profiles (NP&P) track offers a selection of the latest news in the field of vaccines and immunotherapeutics. In this section we also regularly publish opinion pieces on timely, interesting and controversial topics related to vaccines and immunotherapeutics, profiles of companies and organizations, as well as portraits of distinguished scientists in our field.
