The International Society for Vaccines (ISV) Annual Congress took place in Boston, October 2–4, 2016, chaired by Margaret Liu and David Weiner (www.isvcongress/2016). This represented the 10th Congress scientifically organized by ISV, but the first time that ISV managed the logistics after nine years of collaboration with Elsevier. The 2016 ISV Annual Congress was held in collaboration with the International Society for DNA Vaccines and the Vaccine Renaissance Meeting.
As usual, the chairs, working with the renowned vaccinologists on the Scientific Committee for the Congress put together a very full slate of presentations of cutting-edge science spanning the full gamut of vaccine research and development, from basic research through development, manufacturing, clinical trials, and epidemiology. Particular emphasis was placed on timely issues of One Health, emerging infectious diseases such as Zika and Ebola, immunotherapy, and new technologies, for vaccine components, delivery, and their manufacture.
To highlight the presentations, and given the exciting developments that were presented, ISV worked with Human Vaccines and Immunotherapy to publish a special issue devoted to manuscripts arising from the work presented. The papers provide a sampling of the diverse and excellent science presented at the Congress, and is an inaugural issue, for what we anticipate being an annual continued means of sharing the incredible science from the Congress with those who were unable to attend.
