Letter from the editor

Dear reader,

This issue of Human Vaccines & Immunotherapeutics starts with the Immunotherapy section, which presents a review summarizing the effect of combined checkpoint blockade and radiotherapy on the tumor microenvironment (Chen, p 1555), a report on codon-optimized Listeria-based therapeutic HPV vaccine (Duan, p 1568), a mini-review of vaccinia-based vectors for use as vaccines and cancer immunotherapeutics (Zhang, p 1578), a product review of the anti-TNF MAb golimumab (Melo, p 1586), a case report on anaphylaxis following venom immunotherapy in an indolent systemic mastocytosis patient (Selcuk, p 1599), and a Letter to the Editor on memory of the innate immune system (Palmieri, p 1604).

Eight articles on Coronavirus include three surveys of parents’ willingness to enroll their children in Covid-19 vaccine trials (Goldman, p 1607), intentions to vaccinate in UK (Sherman, p 1612), and willingness to accept and pay for a vaccine in China (Zhang, p 1622), a report on pneumococcal carriage in children with Covid-19 (Aykac, p 1628), a review of vaccine development (Vashishtha, p 1635), a mini-review on disease protection by nonspecific effects of other vaccines (Mosaddeghi, p 1650), a commentary on the public discourse on vaccine roll-out and potential impact on trust and acceptance (Limaye, p 1662), and a Letter to the Editor on potential exacerbation of the next pandemic wave by vaccine hesitancy (Sticchi, p 1664).

The Acceptance segment features an analysis of vaccine compliance among preterm and low-birth-weight infants in Israel (Bary-Weisberg, p 1666), assessment of changes in parental vaccine attitudes following elimination of non-medical exemptions from school-entry requirements (Holroyd, p 1675), surveys of knowledge and practices regarding maternal pertussis vaccination among Italian gynecologists (Mazzilli, p 1681), intentions to receive pertussis vaccine among the Chinese (Tang, p 1686) and views of Turkish family physicians on vaccine rejection (Erdoğan, p 1693), a commentary on acceptance of varicella vaccine (Horváth, p 1699), and a study of the effect of message framing on vaccine uptake (Sato, p 1703).

The section on Licensed Vaccines introduces three reviews of herpes zoster incidence (Van Oorschot, p 1714), pertussis epidemiology in Latin America (Nunes, p 1733), and burden of pertussis in South Korea (Mungall, p 1747), study of age effects on diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis antibodies (Liu, p 1757), analysis of genetic correlates of risk of fever following measles vaccination in children (Klein, p 1763), immunogenicity and safety trial of the hexavalent DTP vaccine in HIV-exposed infants in South Africa (Koen, p 1770), assessment of a rubella testing and vaccination campaign following a nationwide outbreak in Japan (Takeshita, p 1779), and a book review of Vaccines and Immunizations by Chuanxi Fu (Pei, p 1785).

Three articles on Rotavirus include a review of vaccine under-performance in LMICs (Lee, p 1787), a study of genetic susceptibility to disease among Chinese children (Wang, p 1803), and a review of strain epidemiology in China (Li, p 1811).

Two Hepatitis B articles investigate factors associated with household transmission in Beijing (Zhao, p 1818) and cost-effectiveness of universal vaccination in Iran (Mokhtari, p 1825).

The Pneumococcal section reports on the impact of PCV in Finland (Rinta-Kokko, p 1834) and preventive effects of pneumococcal and influenza vaccines in the elderly (Rose, p 1844).

Finally, we are happy to present studies of the effects of maternal Influenza vaccination on hospitalizations in children under 1 year of age (San Román Montero, p 1853), risk factors of invasive Meningococcal disease (Taha, p 1858), effectiveness of Passive Immunization in preventing RSV disease in high-risk children (Viguria, p 1867), and a commentary on Public Health lessons from vaccination experience in the Philippines (Reyes, p 1873).
