Seven is a number that recalls a multitude of thoughts, from classical myths as the seven wonders of the ancient world to the weekly rhythm of our life. It emerges in movies and novels since our childhood (e.g., Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, secret agent James Bond’s number–007), but also in milestones of scientific literature such as ‘The Magical Number Seven, Plus or Minus Two’ published by Miller in 1956.

The editorial board of the International Journal of Design Creativity and Innovation (IJDCI) is glad to present the closing issue of the Seventh Volume of the journal, an important achievement that confirms the interest of the design community on creativity and its multiple connections with several domains and disciplines.

In line with the multifaceted nature of the number seven, IJDCI hosts contributions spanning every aspect of creativity in architecture, design, and engineering including theoretical and experimental studies dealing with technological (e.g., artificial intelligence and information technology) and human (e.g., cognitive science and psychology) aspects of creativity and innovation.

Following the initiative to collect and publish insights from knowledgeable scholars in design science and creativity started in the first issue of Volume 7, we are now honoured to host in this issue the reflections shared by Prof. Gabriela Goldschmidt, emeritus professor at Technion, Israel, author of remarkable studies on design cognition and reasoning, visual thinking and sketching, analogy, and design education. Prof. Goldschmidt kindly accepted the invitation to present her view on the most significant advancements in design creativity research and the future challenges for researchers in this field.

We are also glad to promote the Call for Papers of the Sixth International Conference on Design Creativity (ICDC 2020) to be held on August 26–28, 2020 at the University of Oulu, Finland.
