Abstract
This study investigates stressful life events, perceived stress and somatic problems among young people in Hong Kong. The results show that the prevalence rates of chronic and acute somatic problems among respondents are 12.1% and 10.4% respectively. It is found that the major aspects of perceived stress experienced by respondents are related to work or study, unusual happenings, financial difficulties and interpersonal relationships. Significant positive relationships are also found to exist among life events, perceived stress and somatic problems. The theoretical implications of the findings are discussed.
