The Adjustment Process of Single-Parent Families

&
Pages 20-38 | Published online: 25 Apr 2012

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to understand the adjustment process of single parents in Hong Kong. Findings indicate that the reaction towards single parenthood changes over time. The initial reaction may be either positive or negative, but eventually converges to indifference. Such changes can be represented in the shape of a parabola. Hence, a simple, linear model of the adjustment process of single parents is probably inappropriate.
