Abstract

This report attempts to answer some of the questions relating to the development of social work education in China. These questions are: “How are social workers with Chinese characteristics trained?”, “What are the prospects for the emergence of professional social work in China?”, and “To what extent can Western social work, which is rooted in the values of democracy and individual rights, have a place in a socialist country with primary emphasis on collective interest over individuality?”.
