Impact of HIV on the Individual and Family—A Life Cycle Approach

Pages 78-87 | Published online: 25 Apr 2012

Abstract

Anti-retroviral therapy enables people with HIV/AIDS to live many years beyond diagnosis, with implications for care provision. Individual and family life cycles may affect the individual's care needs, and demand consideration. It may prove traumatic when diagnosis coincides with critical transitions in the life cycle. In caring for PWHAs, family closeness, resilience and the ability to pool resources are vital.
