Marital and Family Relationship in Relation to Parents' Adaptation to Paediatric Illness

Pages 119-136 | Published online: 25 Apr 2012

Abstract

The hypothesis that positive marital relationship and family environment is associated with better parental adaptation to paediatric illness is supported in the clinical research with local families. Positive ratings of the marital relationship, high cohesiveness and low conflict in the family are correlated with better parental adaptation. There appears to be support for enhancing marital relationship and family cohesion so as to strengthen the family's ability to cope with the stress of paediatric illness.
