Abstract

In this article, a new multiphase sinusoidal oscillator (MSO) using current feedback amplifiers (CFAs) is presented in which the oscillating frequency is determined by the internal pole of the CFA. The proposed topology is an improved form of the idea employed by Wu et al. in which the CFA pole is used to set the oscillating frequency. The improved circuit employs local negative feedback around each active device and requires no access to the z terminal. Because of this latter feature, the full range of CFAs can be utilised in the implementation of this circuit. The resulting MSO is able to operate at normal power supply voltages and can deliver high output voltage swing at high frequency with relatively low harmonic distortion. The proposed circuit was tested using the AD844 CFA and the expected signal output characteristics were confirmed.
