ABSTRACT

A compact hexagonal tree shaped fractal antenna for ultra–wideband (UWB) applications is presented. The bandwidth has been enhanced by using modified feedline and semi-circular ground plane. The impedance bandwidth of 2.5–16 GHz (146%) has been achieved. The proposed second iteration fractal antenna has nearly omnidirectional patterns at its resonance frequencies with an average gain of 4 dB. The simulation and experimental results are found to be in good agreement. The antenna exhibits better reflection coefficient performance along with reduced dimensions as compared to ones reported earlier.
