The path forward: integrating agroecology into global policy frameworks

&

ABSTRACT

Humanity faces unparalleled challenges, encompassing climate change, economic and political turbulence, as well as pressing societal issues like food insecurity and poverty. The policies guiding our food systems, from production to consumption, navigate a complex landscape marked by paradoxes, realities, contradictions, challenges, and opportunities. Despite the presence of evidence-based policy frameworks, there remains a lack of comprehension regarding the fundamental factors essential for fostering a sustainable planet and a more inclusive society. It is imperative to challenge rooted perceptions surrounding even the most conventional aspects of agri-food systems, thereby justifying sustainable reforms and agroecological transitions. Such endeavors bolster societal and environmental resilience against economic, social, and environmental crises. Envisioning a viable future demands a more critical approach to the design of agro-policy and research frameworks.
