SUMMARY
M. Termier: Anatomy and Evolution of musculature of imago in Ips sexdentatus col. Scolytidae)
Anatomy of mature Ips sexdentatus display some interesting features: head and thorax are almost entirely occupied by muscles. Flight muscles show quite different pattern from that existing in other insect groups with predominance of the dorso-ventral cluster over the dorsal-longitudinal (indirect flight muscles).
Study of younger adults under polarized-light microscope together with classical topographic histology display that immature adults have undeveloped musculature in all body, principally flight muscles, with fairly important intrusion of fat body between them.
In following stages, mandibular and other head muscles grow first and development is completed after three or four weeks.
