Les Aphaenogaster du Maroc (Hymenoptera: Formicidae): Clé et Catalogue des Espèces

Pages 67-85 | Accepted 18 Oct 1995, Published online: 17 May 2023

Abstract

Moroccan Aphaenogaster (Hymenoptera: Formicidae): key and catalogue of species. — In Morocco, the genus Aphaenogaster totalizes 23 species known at the present time; 6 in the sub-genus Attomyrma: foreli, leveillei, crocea, mauritanica, nadigi, theryi and 17 in the subgenus Aphaenogaster s.str.: sardoa ssp. anoemica, baronii, A. (suprasp. senilis), sicardi, rifensis, gemella, miniata, wilsoni, fallax, atlantis, tinauti, espadaleri, torossiani, welersseae, A. (supersp. praedo), A. (supersp curiosa), and A. dejeani. A key is presented as also a survey of the geographical distribution; the High Atlas Mountains and the Atlas of Beni Mellal have 6 and 3 strictly endemic species, respectively. Morocco is proving to be the native land of the sub genus Aphaenogaster s.str. (with striated gaster); their number of species in the myrmecofauna appreciably decreases in other countries. A phylogenetic relationship essay in species of the praedo group is presented.
