Abstract

Description of a new species of Dermaptera, Forcipula caussaneli coming from the beaches of Mauritania (Labiduridae). — This insect belongs obviously to the genus Forcipula. It is unpigmented and lives in moist sand on the beaches of Mauritania, eating mostly sand fleas and small insects as does Labidura riparia. It may be a relic of the ancient saharian fauna when this region was'nt barren, and could have been rejected toward the sea coast as the desert progressed.
