Theology of perception: hearing and listening

Abstract

Communication science and art confront one another especially in research on the interdependence between eye and mind, in assessing how what is visually perceived relates to the true nature of the human being and the real world. Surely, though, in the Jewish-Christian theological sphere, the ear plays an extremely important part too. G. Ravasi defined Jews, Christians and Muslims as ‘people of speech and listening’. The great monotheistic religions are religions of listening.
