Rejuvenation: a call for new editorial board members

ORCID Icon

Welcome to Volume 9, No. 1, our first issue of 2023.

As the volume number tells us, this is the ninth year of publication for Communication Research and Practice, which is a wonderful achievement for a journal that was founded by the Australian and New Zealand Communication Association (ANZCA) initially with a ‘start-up’ mindset to fill a void that was caused in part by the decision to discontinue the former Australian Journal of Communication.

Our other aim was, and still is, to publish research that contributes to international scholarship and practice in the broadly defined field of communication; and in doing so, internationalise communication research in the Oceania region.

As I mentioned in my final Editorial of 2022 (in Vol. 8, No. 4), it is now time for Communication Research and Practice to undergo rejuvenation so that we can grow and be better equipped to serve the scholarly communities we are called to be part of.

Expressions of Interest (EOI) for new Editorial Board members are hereby open. Please let your colleagues know, and consider nominating yourself. We are looking for both established and emerging Communication scholars and thinkers, with preferences for our current readership base and members of ANZCA. We are specifically looking for members who are willing to play an active role in the journal not just by reviewing articles regularly (3–5 times a year), but by participating in meetings, proposing special issues, offering to guest edit journal issues and more.

I should emphasise too that my use of the ‘new’ nomenclature does not preclude current editorial board members. On the contrary, current members who would like to extend their commitment to serve are more than welcome to submit an EOI.

The closing date is 14th July 2023, and it is expected that the new Editorial Board will be fully in place before the close of the year.

Please email your EOI directly to me at [email protected] and attach no more than a 2-page statement addressing the following points, succinctly and clearly:

  • Name, Title, and Contact details

  • Employment and Qualifications

  • Fields of interest in Communication and areas of expertise (including methodological training and background)

  • Please include a selection of your publications (please list mainly Q1-ranked journals, a list of blind-reviewed publications and indicate previous experience with journals and peer review processes)

  • Professional Memberships and level of involvement (e.g. ANZCA, ICA, IAMCR, and others)

  • You may include other information that you consider useful to the application.

Decisions will be made in consultation with the Editorial Advisory Board of the journal, and we reserve the right to appoint via invitation. Successful members will be notified by August 2023.

I look forward to receiving a strong suite of EOIs, and for new members to join us in the rejuvenation project. There is much to look forward to in 2023 and beyond.
