Abstract
Antimicrobial activity of ethyl acetate leaf extracts of Syzygium zeylanicum and Syzygium hemisphericum were tested against four gram negative, two gram positive bacterial and three fungal isolates at different concentration (5, 15, 25 mg/ml). Ethyl acetate extract of Syzygium zeylanicum showed higher activity against Bacillus subitlis whereas Syzygium hemisphericum was effective against Escherichia coli. The fungal cultures were more resistant against both plant species. MICs and MLCs were calculated for the bacterial species.
