Abstract
In the present study, out of four solvent extracts of Loranthus micranthus, the methanol extract yielded more phytochemicals (carbohydrates, cardiac glycosides, phytosterols, alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, tannins, gums and mucilages, and reducing sugars) at highest concentration and also exhibited the highest phenolic and flavonoid content. The methanol extract exhibited more antioxidant activity in all antioxidant methods tested and also inhibited the target pathogenic bacteria at highest inhibition range. It almost inhibited the growth of all the tested bacteria and more inhibition was observed with Staphylococcus aureus. Methanol extract has given good yield of phytochemicals and significantly showed strong antioxidant and antibacterial effects depicting good MIC values. Optimal studies are needed to identify exact antioxidant and antibacterial agents in Loranthus micranthus.
